Let me start by saying that I manage one of the top resort's in the U.S. This is my second visit to the Victoria House and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. The staff is very warm and friendly. They understand who keeps them in business and because of that mentality, they are very engaging and genuine. The grounds are amazing. Very green and plush. Well manicured and neatly kept. The food is fantastic. We eat at least 2 meals a day there, but usually 3. We use the dive shop regularly and love Luis. He is very attentive and thorough. We book at least one excursion a day (dive, snorkel, fish, catamaran) and have never had one problem. The billing on our room is always accurate. The excursions are on time and Luis has great relationships with his contacts. I book my fishing with Tomas from El Pescador. Having complimentary bicycles is a nice touch, not to mention a well maintained fleet of golf carts ready for you to rent at anytime. All you need to do is swing by the front desk and sign one out and it's yours as long as you would like it. The facility is in amazing condtion as well for a property that sits beachfront in a saltwater environment. Employees from their Engineering Department are constantly working to maintain the appearance and functionality. The location is great as well. You are just minutes from Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark/Ray Alley via boat. Maybe 10 minutes at the most. The Victoria House is only a couple of miles from San Pedro. This is great because you're not in the middle of everyone but can get there in just a few short minutes. I really can't say enough about this place. It was peaceful, relaxing, yet provided outlets to do anything we wanted and they made it so easy to do! I've traveled a lot both internationally as well as domestically and this is by far one of the best!!! I can't wait to go back Close

We didn't have reservations and just showed up. We were able to negotiate a better rate since it's low season and not as many tourists. We looked at hotels on the north end, but too far and hard to get to. The ones closer to town were too noisy. This one was just right. Get a cabana with an outdoor shower. Spectacular... Close

I stayed at the Victoria House because it was listed on XO private. Yes, it's expensive, even during low-season, but you get a very well-appointed room, on beautiful grounds near the airport, with a great restaurant and decent amenities. The rooms are beautifully decorated, quiet and comfortable, without being overly pampered, and the maid visits twice a day. I felt home and cosy, and was never in a rush to leave. The complimentary internet in the room was also excellent. The restaurant is one of the best three on the island and you should give it a go for at least one night, but it's over-priced and you should seriously consider trying other excellent places in San Pedro city. (I have reviewed a few of them in separate articles: Wild Mangos, Elvi's Kitchen and Blue Water are all great.) The hotel dive centre is not the best on the island. First, it is not a dive centre per say: more like an equipment rental spot that dispatches its divers with the Bradley Brothers (who are excellent). The rental equipment (BCD, regulator) is in superb condition, but they won't offer fins with straps. No big deal. The main problem with the dive centre is the guy in charge, Luis, who comes out as arrogant and a bit on the negative side. No solution or alternatives are offered, nor apologies for that matter, when activities are cancelled at the last minute, or when it's impossible to get out for lack of numbers. There's no enthusiasm emanating from him, nor outgoing information. It's all 'yes' and 'no'. Sometimes I felt like I should apologise for claiming the services he is paid to offer. Very disappointing. Also, don't bother taking your running shoes: there is no gym at the hotel, although it is possible to jog along the beach. There is, however, an excellent 20-meter lap pool, but the place is popular with sun bathers, so you might have to time your crawling sessions with dawn and dusk. The staff is a bit hit and miss. When it is good, it is excellent, but when it is helpless, well, sorry. Overall, I was pleased with the staff at the restaurant and at the front desk, but I sometimes had to wrestle to get information outside the staff comfort zone. I understand that low-season made for low attendance and cancellations, but I had to insist to be offered alternatives. No big deal, only coming from such high-profile (Conde Nast award and everything) place, you'd hope for a little more initiative. Overall, I loved the room, the grounds, the restaurant and the pool. I would suggest the hotel they hire a different dive master, someone with charisma, enthusiasm and initiative. I would also make sure the staff knows more about alternative travel and activities, outside the ready-made packages on offer. Close

We have just returned from this unforgettable island get away which was superlative in every way. We would not hesitate to recommend Victoria House to anyone wanting a trip of a lifetime. Different types of accomodations to suit every dream.Staff was friendly and caring and helpful in every way. Excellent meals in the dining room and great drinks in the bar. If their is something you wish but do not see, just ask and your wish will be their command. Many excellent water activities along with great excursions available. Great for newly weds, couples or families. Something for everyone. A must on your to do list! Close
