Beautiful location on river Shannon and beautiful old house with interesting history. Food overpriced and standard has fallen. Seriously in need of a major overhaul in terms of plumbing, wiring and furnishings. Leisure Centre is old and in need of repair. Ladies showers are awful, they cycle from scalding hot to freezing cold (so be careful with kids) the Jacuzzi doesn't always work and overall it looks like it has had no investment in at least 15 yrs. If it wasn't for the fab location this hotel has little going for it. Close

Castle Oaks is tucked away in the beautiful but untouched village of Castleconnel on the outskirts of Limerick. We were greeted by cheerful reception staff in a spacious, comfortable lobby providing comfortable seating. The bedroom room was well appointed with enormous picture window looking out over the Shannon River. The hotel is set in charming grounds offering guests swimming pool, spa and childrens playground. Tables in the dining room were laid out in crisp linen tablecloths and was spacious, airy and well lit. Breakfast was full Irish, scones, selection of savoury breads, croissants, several choices of juices, fruit salds, yogurt and cereals. Table service was very good. Definitely stay there again - would be ideal for a family break as Castle Oaks offers Chalet accommodation also. Close

Traveler rating: Castleconnell: Castle Oaks House Hotel: "Avoid rooms 15A & 15B Garden Suites" seos07, Ennis County Clare The reason we'd booked was for a friends wedding and had booked about 2 months in advance. The Garden suites are outside the Main Hotel building and are arranged in a rectangle around the carpark . We arrived at I think 415A I open the door it hit of the end of the bed. The room was small and very compact. We went back to the reception and asked for a room change. This was early in the day and not all the guests had checked in. They gave us the room next door. At first glance all seemed ok. We left are bags in and went to the reception. When we arrrived back . I pull back the top quilt , this was not a double bed but two singles. The room on the further inspection was fitted for handicap person with all the light swiches, sink, fixed low on the wall and shower. I'm 5ft 10 inches and the shower head fully extended only reached to my collar. There was a trouser press in the corner , to use it I had to pull out the TV which was on a wooden table, I wonder how a hanhicap person might manage this. Then there was the fan in the bathroom which came on when you turn on the bathroom light normal enough. But when the people turned on there's ours came on as well. The duct for there's ran across are ceiling above the bed. I made a video record of theses rooms. On my partner side of the bed the bedside table had a phone on it . We tried to ring reception, but found it wasn't connected to anything. Outside the room and to the left was a lounge witd TV. The Next Morning we decided to check out the other rooms , as it was the case ours was the only set of rooms on the ground floor next door were 415 A & B was one was a dinning room with table and chairs the other was a lounge in the hallway was a staircase which lead up to two rooms. One was open for cleaning , inside we found a well appointed room and bathroom with balcony.This was the type of room we would have expected to get for the tarriff we paid. We asked to speak to the manager on checking out. Told him what I have written above. His answer was the tourist board had approved the rooms, I said I would speak to them he didn't seem bother my this. One thing I would say though they do know how to put on a wedding the reception was good Close
