My girlfriend and I stayed here for 1 week as part of a package deal and were thoroughly impressed with the service from the staff. On arrival we were assigned a ground floor room which we didn't like, we asked to be moved upstairs and the staff were more than accommodating, preparing a new room for us, smiling all the time. The upstairs room was perfectly adequate although the self catering kitchen was a little pokey and very difficult to cook as there is no counter space. Other than that the hotel is great, quiet pool area that is always very clean, a friendly barman/woman and super helpful front desk staff. Stay here if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful break. My partner and I stayed at the Solferias for a week in June 2008, but I wasn't allowed to go back that far, hence 2009. I picked this hotel as it wasn't far from the centre, looked nice, and was very cheap. Although there is a very steep hill into Carvoeiro I found it quite a pleasant walk and anyone who complains about that should know about it beforehand as numerous reviews do tell you about the hill. The hotel itself I found to be in a lovely peaceful location and although the decor is very 60s kitcsh, I found it to be very charming and homely. The pool area was lovely, lots of sunbeds, a great patio area for the Tuesday night BBQs, and a patio area in front of the bar. I was very impressed with our room, absolutely huge, two double beds and a big balcony, my only gripe was the hob didnt work in the kitchenette area, but I wasn't too bothered. The service was second to none and the staff made us feel very welcome, they work very hard and I couldn't thank them enough for the great holiday we had. Carvoeiro is a wonderful resort, not too big, not too small, very picturesque, with plenty of local and english restaurants, and bars (Dirty Nelly's at the bottom of the hill is good for a drink to brace yourself for the steep walk back!). My partner and I make a point of visiting a different place every year for our holiday but we would definitely return back here no doubt. The only thing I disliked is that we weren't here for longer! We booked the Solferias as a cheap break through the Easter holidays and it worked out at £7 each per night. We have been to Carvoeiro 7 times now and love it but have never stayed this side of Carvoeiro before, but for that price we thought we'd give it a go. The Hotel is about 15mins walk out of Carvoeiro (about 5 euros in a taxi), it's an easy walk down but a nightmare back up unless you walk via Monte Carvoeiro. Check in was easy and the receptionist was good humoured and pleasant, as he remained throughout our stay, we went down in to the town and returned for a drink before retiring to bed and this was the main problem - there is only one member of staff on at this time of year and we had to fetch him from reception to get a drink. The rooms are pretty dia as per other reviews. There is a damp smell and they are very dated, the fridge made so much noise that we switched it off over night. The windows and balcony need painting and the decor is very 60's. Having said all this, it was clean and the shower was one of the best I have ever used. The best thing about the Solferias is the price and for that alone I would stay again, but for comfort and location - stay elsewhere. Close

This hotel was so cheap that I wasn't expecting much but the place is great! Reception was helpful and 24hrs. Rooms were big, had balconies and no really bad smells. After a few days, there was a slight musty smell in the room but think it was coz we were out so much and there wasn't much air getting in the room. Beds were comfy and showers had good pressure. The only downside was that the hotel is a little further from town than others and, though the hill isn't that bad to walk up in the evening, we did get taxis most of the time (approx 4-5euro). Having read the reviews I was a little nervous about staying here and had prepared myself for the worst BUT I was very suprised!! I think someone people must be so hard to please reading past reviews. When arriving our room was ready straight away we had top floor 401 it was fab!! huge apartment!!! with great views to the sea!! The staff were very friendly and spoke good english! The pool area was cleaned all the time, if the bar staff were not serving they were hosing the pool area! The bus service was great we got it a few times when we had our big bottles of water but at other times we just walked the hill was quite steel but a lovely walk and good to walk off dinner etc! Check out time was 12ppm but they let us stay till 2pm free- would def recommend!!! Cheryl & Douglas, Glasgow Close
